Salem, OR – Bruce Starr (R-Hillsboro) has filed paperwork to run for his third term representing Senate District 15 at the Oregon Legislature. Starr has been a strong voice for the Washington district since 1999, and has developed a reputation as a common sense problem solver, consensus builder and champion of Oregon jobs.

Need for jobs and rainy day fund remain unaddressed as final gavel drops

Salem, OR – The final “practice run” of Oregon’s even numbered year session was defined by political posturing, retribution and a distinctly partisan agenda, leaving little substantive work product for Oregonians to feel good about. The session began February 1st and in the afternoon of February 25th.

Instead of stealing the kicker, Starr requires dedicated saving every budget cycle

Salem, OR – This February, Senator Bruce Starr (R-Hillsboro) is offering an alternative to Governor Ted Kulongoski’s rainy day fund proposal. Starr will again introduce a bill that would put 3% of state revenue into a savings account at the beginning of every budget cycle. Governor Ted Kulongoski (D) has proposed changing the state constitution to allow use of Oregon’s kicker money for a rainy day fund.

Salem, OR — For the fifth session in a row, Senator Bruce Starr (R-Hillsboro) has played a key role in crafting a transportation package that is projected to put thousands of Oregonians to work, relieve key transportation bottlenecks around the state and help ensure the long term economic viability of the state.  House Bill 2001 passed the Senate floor 24 to 6 on Friday.

(Salem)  “Senate Bill 911 addresses only a portion of the concerns voiced by residents and local law enforcement, but it is a step in the right direction,” said State Senator Bruce Starr (R-Hillsboro) who carried the measure on the Senate Floor today. Senate Bill 911 was adopted by a vote of  29‐0. The measure calls for standards for Secure Residential Treatment Facilities (SRTF) which house people coming out of the state hospital and have been found “guilty except for insanity”.

Trio of bills introduced by Starr begin to combat human trafficking

Cornelius, OR — The Senate Judiciary Committee unanimously passed out a bill Monday morning which will help provide safety, privacy and dignity to victims of human trafficking. Senate Bill 839 would allow victims of human trafficking to make all public records of their addresses confidential through the Address Confidentiality Program.
