Starr Stands Against Small Business Tax Increase

With very little fanfare this Thursday, the Senate Revenue Committee voted to end a significant amount of tax relief to Oregon businesses. Senator Bruce Starr was the lone dissenting voice against the proposal, which eliminates the corporate kicker to form a rainy day fund. Emphasizing that the state needed a state savings account, but not at the expense of Oregon business, Starr called for budgeting savings every biennium, rather then depending on faulty forecasting to fill the emergency account. "It's time we made savings a priority," said Starr. "It should be the first thing we budget for, not the last."
